Hermandad de Sigma lota Alpha hosted a virtual Galentine’s Day event on Friday, Feb. 13 where all ladies were invited to play a few games and get to know the members of the organization.
The evening started with an ice-breaker, everyone introduced themselves and shared their idea of a perfect Valentine’s Day date.
Junior Yasmin Reyes said, “Going for a walk and a simple homemade meal. Afterward each reading our own books while listening to music” was her idea of a perfect Valentine’s date.
When the first game started, a ten-second clip of a song with the word ‘love’ in the title was played, and the first person to send the correct title in the chat got a point.
Racking their brains to remember the song title, the women eagerly typed in what they hoped to be the right answer, only to realize that someone had already beaten them to it.
After listening to the love ballads of Taylor Swift, Whitney Houston and Justin Bieber; the points were tallied and a prize was awarded. The guests were then asked to test their Disney knowledge. Pictures of characters were displayed and the group had to guess their partner’s name. When Aladdin’s picture was shown, “Princess Jasmine” was shouted and laughter erupted.
Senior Ashley Gonzales said, “Being able to meet new people and bond with them through music and movies” was her favorite part of the event.
Hermandad de Sigma lota Alpha holds a small number of women who have an undeniable closeness with one another.
President of the organization, senior Beatriz Hernandez said, “Since we are a fairly new organization, a lot of students do not know that there is a Latina (but not Latina exclusive) sorority on campus.”
Although there wasn’t a large number of attendees, there was laughter and smiling faces on every screen.
Hernandez said, “It was an accurate amount for the attendance. The event was well organized by one of our members, and we do these events to get to meet new students and bond with our sisters.”
Their sisterhood created an intimate and warm atmosphere that exemplified their bond and care for one another.
By holding events like this, the organization hopes to attract more members and be more involved on campus.
“This will help us spread the word of other things we represent. We take friendship, solidarity, and inspiration seriously” Hernandez said.
Following the success of their first event, Hermandad de Sigma lota Alpha will be hosting another virtual event on Feb.18 where they will give more information on their organization.
