The NFL offseason is now in full swing and many teams are looking to improve their rosters while others are looking to offload some contracts and trade away players.
Quarterback Teddy Bridgewater, who hasn’t started in a regular season game since 2022, signed a 1-year contract with the Detroit Lions to play behind Jared Goff.
Another big trade that shocked the league was defensive end Maxx Crosby being dealt to the Baltimore Ravens, and later the trade fell through due to medical concerns.
Quarterback Kyler Murray signed a 1-year contract with the Minnesota Vikings, raising concern for whether or not JJ McCarthy will be the starting quarterback.
Similar to the Murray situation, the Atlanta Falcons signed quarterback Tua Tugovailoa to a 1-year deal.
This has many NFL fans asking if Michael Penix Jr. will start for Atlanta, or if they will go with the more experienced veteran in Tugovailoa.
The Carolina Panthers also improved its defense significantly by signing edge rusher Jaelan Phillips to a 4-year, $120 million contract, as well as linebacker Devin Lloyd on a 3-year, $48 million contract.
Another big move in the offseason includes running back Kenneth Walker II signing a 2-year contract with the Kansas City Chiefs.
After a disappointing season for Kansas City, this move will bolster their offense.
In recent news, quarterback Justin Fields was traded to the Chiefs as well to be a backup for Patrick Mahomes.
Kansas City gave up a sixth-round draft pick to acquire Fields.
Wide receiver Travis Kelce announced his return for the 2026 NFL season, re-signing with the Chiefs on a 1-year deal.
Another team who has made a lot of signings so far in free agency is the Las Vegas Raiders:
- C Tyler Linderbaum, 3-years, $80 million
- WR Jalen Nailor, 3-years, $35 million
- EDGE Kwity Paye, 3-years, $48 million
This is only a few of their signings this offseason, and there will likely be more to come.
The Los Angeles Rams also improved its defense by bringing in cornerback Jaylen Watson on a 3-year $51 million contract.
Some other free agency moves include:
- WR Mike Evans, San Francisco 49ers, 3-years, $60.4 million
- EDGE Odafe Oweh, Washington Commanders, 4-years, $100 million
- RB Travis Etienne, New Orleans Saints, 4-years, $52 million
- QB Malik Willis, Miami Dolphins, 3-years, $67.5 million
- WR Alec Pierce, (re-sign) Indianapolis Colts, 4-years, $116 million
