UCA has been a part of The Rwanda Presidential Scholars Program University Consortium since 2009, working with the Rwandan government to provide four-year undergraduate scholarships to commendable Rwandan students on campus studying in the fields of mathematics, physics, chemistry, and biology.
After finishing their studies, the students return to Rwanda to work for a minimum of five years to rebuild the communications of their nation.
Currently, eight Rwandan Presidential Scholars attend UCA and two more will be accepted in the fall.
“UCA and the program in particular have provided me with all the necessary [knowledge]to succeed in college, and being a part of this program for me has been a privilege as it is a responsibility for myself, my family and my country,” Senior Applied Mathematics major Robert Habimana said.
Junior physics major, Gerard Munyazikwiye said that his experience at UCA has been unique and life-changing.
“I have learned social and academic skills, not only thorugh class lectures, but also through my interactions with my classmates, coworkers and friends that I have met here at UCA,” Munyazikwiye said.
He said the exclusive experience has helped him grow “mentally and spiritually.”
“I believe that what I am learning will be a key component in my career life both inside and outside of the workplace. This will benefit me and my country through creativity and innovation by using my physics skills to resolve energy and infrastructure problems,” Munyazikwiye said.
