The Mississippi State softball team demolished the UCA softball team with a final score of 8-0 at an April 1 away game.
Throughout the entire five-inning game, Mississippi State refused to permit any runs by the Bears.
Innings one and two were rather uneventful with no runs made by either team.
The Bears (17-20, ASUN 5-3) completed the first inning after just three batters with senior infielder Kylie Griffin coming up to bat first, followed by graduate infielder Madi Young and freshman infielder Addie Graham.
Four batters came up to plate for Mississippi State (30-8, SEC 6-3) during the bottom of the first inning but none managed any runs for the team.
During the top of the second inning, freshman infielder Mya January came up to bat first for the Bears followed by a single made by junior infielder/outfielder Lilly Hood.
Hood advanced to second when freshman infielder Kailyn Graham hit a single through center field.
Two outs by the next batters followed which ended the top of the second inning at 0-0.
Mississippi State graduate pitcher Lexi Sosa batted first in the bottom of the second inning and struck out.
This was followed by a fly out to center field by senior catcher Jessie Blaine and a walk by senior infielder Riley Hull.
The second inning ended with Hull left on base and the score still at 0-0 following a popped-up out to second base by junior outfielder Kiarra Sells.
Mississippi State prevented UCA from scoring any runs during the third inning.
Senior outfielder Sierra Sacco came up to bat for Mississippi State and hit a single up middle field before advancing to second base due to a wild pitch.
Sacco made the first run of the game halfway through the inning by way of a run batted in by sophomore infielder Kylee Edwards and her single to left field.
Following a walk by Sosa and a single by Blaine, junior infielder Nadia Barbary scored the second run of the game.
This play also ended the third inning with two runs and two players left on base.
The Bears were unable to retaliate in the top of the fourth inning after all three batters got out.
Hull came up to bat for Mississippi State in the bottom of the fourth inning but got out following a popped-up hit to second base.
Sells then hit a single to the left of center field.
This play was followed by a double by Sacco, allowing Sells to advance to third base.
Barbary then appeared to get out at first base, but this call was reversed, resulting in Sells scoring the third run of the game.
Sacco then scored by way of an RBI by junior outfielder Morgan Bernardini and Barbary advanced to second base.
After this fourth run by Mississippi State, freshman pitcher Madge Layfield went to pitch for senior pitcher Bailie Runner, who allowed seven hits and three runs while facing 21 batters.
Mississippi State then put in freshman outfielder Kalani Sells as a pinch runner for Bernardini.
Following a wild pitch and a walk by Edwards, Barbary scored a fifth run for Mississippi State by way of an RBI by freshman infielder Morgan Stiles.
The fourth inning ended with a score of 5-0 and two players left on base.
During the top of the fifth inning, the UCA Softball team failed to retaliate once again.
Mississippi State scored thrice more in the fifth inning resulting in a final score of 8-0.
Sacco led Mississippi State with two total runs and one RBI. Followed by Barbary at two runs.
The Bears hit the road for a three-game series against Bellarmine on April 12 and 13.
