The UCA track and field teams traveled to Azusa, California, for the Bryan Clay Invitational on April 17-18.
The Bears saw two program records fall this weekend, with junior Madeline Hill breaking the school record in the women’s 10000m run with a time of 35:11:97 and senior Pete Johson breaking the school record in the men’s 3000m steeplechase with a time of 8:49:51.
UCA head track and field coach Josey Weaver said, “Breaking two school records on the first day of the competition really stood out to me. We had a very early travel day and it was not ideal for peak competition. But Madeline Hill and Pete Johnson handled it and surpassed my expectations.”
In the women’s 100 meter race, there were three UCA athletes who placed in the top 15. Sophomore Raghan Allen placed 8th in 11.67 seconds. Junior Troynelle Miller placed 9th in 11.71 seconds.Sophomore Brenae Allen placed 15th in 11.85 seconds.
In the women’s 200 meter race there were four athletes who competed. Sophomore Raghan Allen placed 7th with a time of 24.08 seconds. Miller placed 33rd with a time of 24.83 seconds.Sophomore Brenae Allen placed 36rd with a time of 24.95 seconds. Senior Sakara Harrison placed 43rd with a time of 25.16 seconds.
In the men’s 200 meter race, freshman Jeremiah Boudreaux placed 4th with a time of 21.05 seconds.
In the women’s 400 meter race, senior Harrison placed 46th with a time of 57.85 seconds.
In the men’s 800m run, junior Jonathan Heath placed 13th in 1:51:78 and senior Tim Haugton placed 34th with a time of 1:52:49.
In the men’s 800m run invite race, junior Jack Dingman placed 88th in a time of 1:51.30.
In the men’s 1500m run, Haugton placed 118 with a time of 3:57:73. Dingman placed 90th out of 143 runners in 3:47:36.
In the women’s 5000m run open b race sophomore Kayleigh Wagnon placed 68th with a time of 17:29:21 and senior Felisa Saheib placed 88th with a time of 17:43:01.
In the women’s 5000m run open c race junior Sequoya Prentice placed 23th place and her time was 17:39:41.
In the men’s 110m hurdles three athletes competed.Boudreaux placed 12th with a time of 14.39 seconds.Sophomore Bryon Holt placed 14th with a time of 14.44 seconds. Sophomore Xavier Simpkins placed 15th with a time of 14.56 seconds.
In the women’s 400 hurdles junior Symone Quiles placed 41st with a time of 1:04:42.
Weaver said, “Our sport is very unique [in] that everything is built toward our ASUN championships in May. We backed off a little from training to be fresh for this one, but the goal remains the same, which is to be ready to compete at our very best at the ASUN championships in Jacksonville Florida on May 15 – 17.”
The Bears’ will next compete at the John McDonnell Invitational in Fayetteville, Arkansas.
