The UCA baseball team fell to the Lipscomb University Bisons in a three-game series 7-3, 13-6 and 5-1 April 17-19 in Nashville, Tennessee.
The Bears (14-24, 8-9 ASUN) had their first game on April 17 and fell short of the Bisons (18-20, 10-7 ASUN).
In the bottom of the first inning junior right fielder Aaron Stelogeannis scored off a hit from redshirt senior left fielder Parks Bouck and gave the Bisons their first run.
The Bisons scored two more runs during the second inning courtesy of a home run hit by Stelogeannis, which also allowed junior designated hitter Corey Boyette to score.
Lipscomb scored another run in the third inning courtesy of junior first baseman David Kenealy Jr. batting in a run, which was scored by redshirt senior third baseman David Coppedge. The Bisons got two more runs in the fourth inning, making the score 6-0.
At the end of the sixth inning Bouck scored one more run for the Bisons.
The Bears were finally able to score off a home run hit by senior designated hitter Preston Curtis. Curtis’s home run racked up three runs for the Bears, with the first two being scored by junior second/third baseman Bryce Cermenelli and junior pinch runner Noah Goodshield.
Even after these three runs, the Bears were still four runs short of the Bisons, with the final score being 7-3.
The Bears faced the Bisons for the second time on April 18 and lost 13-6.
Bouck scored the Bisons their first run off a single hit by Coppedge.
With the bases loaded, graduate catcher Jake Berg hit a home run, allowing Coppedge, senior shortstop Kai Holm and Kenealy Jr. to score in addition to himself.
The Bears scored four runs during the fourth inning, where Curtis homered to left field, which allowed him and senior catcher Casey Shipley to score.
Senior Tanner Leonard hit another home run for the Bears, allowing himself and senior first baseman Jagger Schattle to score the Bears two more runs.
The Bisons scored one more run during the fifth inning by way of an RBI hit by Stelogeannis, which was scored by graduate center fielder Collin Goda.
The Bisons got one more run during the sixth inning and two more in the seventh inning.
The eighth inning brought the Bisons four more runs.
The Bears scored themselves two more runs in the ninth inning, which were scored by Schattle and junior designated hitter Keon Moseni.
The Bisons completed a sweep of the Bears by winning game three 5-1.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, Coppedge hit a home run to score the first run of the game for Lipscomb. During the sixth inning, freshman second baseman Brady Miller scored the Bisons their second run of the game.
Shipley scored for the Bears in the seventh inning off a run batted in by Leonard.
Lipscomb was able to score three more runs at the bottom of the seventh inning, which were scored by Kenealy Jr., Berg and sophomore pinch hitter Jacob Tobias to bring the score to 5-1 and secure the sweep for the Bisons.
The Bears will face Bellarmine at Bear Stadium in a three-game series April 25-27.
