The UCA film club hosted its first movie night of the year in Stanley Russ Hall on Jan. 28. The film club showed “The LEGO Batman Movie” to start off the club’s semester of movie nights.
Senior film major Joey Powell said, “A big part of making a film is networking and making connections with other people.”
Junior film and PR major Calee Goble said, “I joined my freshman year, and then I ran my sophomore year to be the social media executive.”
Goble said the movie night is monthly and that the executive board picks five movies and everyone else gets to pick which one they want to show.
Goble said, “You don’t have to be a part of the club. Anyone who wants to come can come and watch.”
Powell said, “Being able to laugh with people and having fun with other actors is a way that you can connect and you kind of break down walls between other people. So, that later on down the line if someone needs help with a film, they can remember something like this and the connections that they made doing this.”
Senior film major Janie Gentry said, “I really like the film club a lot. I am the secretary and my job is to put together graphics, make presentations for our meetings and just help lead events like this.”
Gentry said, “It is a great way to build community. I love to see all of the people come out and just hang out together.”
The film club also hosted Pitch Fest on Jan. 30, where anyone on campus could come and pitch their projects.
Powell said, “It’s to get everyone hyped up about it and for everyone to come together and collaborate on the different projects that they have going on. For instance, if someone goes ‘Oh, I’m in the theatre program, but I want to do some film’ then they can go to the pitch fest and collaborate with someone who needs help in film.”
