Students gathered for a night of singing, dancing and laughter at karaoke night hosted by the Student Activities Board on Jan. 30.
The event was an opportunity to showcase their talents and have fun in a carefree environment.
Sophomore Emily Moody said, “I decided to come because I really enjoyed the event last year. I also love to sing. I really enjoyed how supportive the whole audience was. Everyone had a great vibe and supported everyone who went up there to sing.”
“I sang ‘Happier’ by Olivia Rodrigo and ‘Since U Been Gone’ by Kelly Clarkson. I also sang ‘What is this Feeling’ from ‘Wicked’ as a duet,” Moody said.
Multiple different combinations of solos, duets and trios performed a variety of songs throughout the night.
Freshman Shaley Jordan said, “I went to clear my head from all the school work and to see what it was all about. Even though I didn’t sing myself, my favorite part was hearing some of my favorite songs and just being able to vibe with my friends. Especially, when ‘Careless Whisper’ by George Micheal was played, that definitely was my favorite song.”
SAB putting on this event is a highlight for a lot of students.
“This event is definitely good for students because almost everyone loves music and singing. It’s a fun event that lets students relax and not think too hard. Also, as a person with social anxiety, it’s a great way to step out of your comfort zone and receive positive reinforcement from other students on campus who share a common interest,” Moody said.
Jordan said, “I think this event was great for all students because it really helps to release stress from your school work and to just get away for a while. I got to chill and be surrounded by encouraging people and felt like I was one of the people singing on stage just sitting in the audience. The Student Activities Board definitely should keep these types of events going and I can’t wait to see what else they have in store.”
