Relay For Life organized a tabling event where students could make their own keychains and get cancer awareness buttons to spread love for Valentine’s Day on Feb. 11.
Senior Kate Hale said, “The money that we raise goes to Cancer research, and then it goes to families who have or are currently battling cancer.”
Sophomore Alaina Dupas said “With this specific tabling event, we have different things that people can buy. We have keychains, buttons, and tickets to a different fundraiser we are doing later this month, but all of the profit that we make today will go to the American Cancer Society.”
“This event can benefit the community by getting them more involved, as well as making our organization well known to people on campus. People are always looking for a place to get plugged in and this is a really good place to get involved, Dupas said.
Senior Kate Hale said, “Our main goal is to raise money for the American Cancer Society; so we appreciate the support from the University to be able to raise more money than we have in the past, and throughout the past few years, we’ve been doing so.”
Relay For Life hosts many tabling events throughout the year all over campus, but this one, being a Valentine’s Day theme, is different.
Dupas said, “With Valentine’s Day so close, and people having tangible things to buy or do crafty things with — I think it will help raise awareness for what Valentine’s Day is for, and help acknowledge people that you love.”
Relay for Life is a community-based fundraiser, but it is also a global movement that anybody can participate in.
“Cancer is something that affects just about everybody, even if you are not directly affected, you may know someone who has been affected, so it is a great organization to give back to. I know it is special to everybody in our committee, so I think not only UCA should be involved, I think everybody should, “ Hale said.
Relay for Life hosts many events across UCA, but none bigger than the one on April 5.
“We are always doing these fundraising tabling events, but we are having our event on April 5 at the football stadium; so we will have different booths just to spread awareness and raise money, ” Hale said.
This event will be the biggest Relay For Life fundraiser on campus all year, and it will last from 12-9 p.m. on April 5, at Estes Stadium.
The next Relay For Life fundraiser event will be Feb. 20 at Don Pepe’s, where a portion of all sales will be donated to the American Cancer Society.
