On Sept. 28, during the third quarter, Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson suffered from a hamstring injury, causing him to sit out for the rest of the game.
Sentiments could be found throughout the team.
“I can’t speak for Lamar … you know,” said running back Derrick Henry. “Hopefully, we get him back, and I’m praying for him.”
“We’ve got issues that we’re dealing with and we got to deal with them in a real smart way and find out a way how to line up and our best game against the Texans,” said coach of the Ravens John Harbaugh in a post-game press conference. “I don’t have any… updates about the seriousness of injuries right now.”
“Nothing looks like it’s season ending,” Harbaugh reassured, “those are the challenges that you face from time to time.”
Jackson was not the only player who was injured in this game. According to an article from the Ravens themselves, Jackson was one of five injuries during this game, including cornerback Nate Wiggins, who suffered an elbow injury; cornerback Marlon Humphrey, who faced a calf injury; left tackle Ronnie Stanley, who suffered from an ankle injury; and linebacker Roquan Smith, who had also suffered from a hamstring injury.
This is also on top of multiple injuries that the Ravens teams had already been facing.
This has created an environment that puts the Ravens’ play at a disadvantage compared to other, more complete teams.
The game ended in a Chiefs victory with a score of 37-20.
This puts the Ravens at a season record of 1-3 and the Chiefs at a record of 2-2.
According to a Yahoo Sports article, if the Ravens lose again, they will then have a record of 1-4 for the first time since 2015, when they finished 5-11.
Currently, they are tied with the Cleveland Browns, who are also 1-3.
Due to his injury, Jackson will not be able to play against the Texans in week 5 of the season.
Instead, back-up quarterback Cooper Rush (#15) will be taking his place in his absence.
“You know, we’ve been here before in this type of situation. It’s nothing new,” said Rush in a press conference about the upcoming game, “you lean on that and you get confidence from it and … just trust yourself and if you’ve got to go out there, you can do it.”
“Whenever a franchise QB goes down, it’s always … sky is falling down feeling wherever you are. And … it’s normal,” said Rush, “if you have to go out there on Sunday and … do what you and it’s nice knowing you had a whole week to prep for it … so things like that are good.”
This is not the first injury that Jackson has faced.
The last injury he faced was the infamous 2023 injury that had led to the game being canceled for the day.
With these two injuries included, Jackson has faced a total of 21 injuries throughout his professional career.
