UCA encouraged students to get involved with voting through the national register to vote day.
The day encouraged young, bright students to put themselves out there, so they never miss an opportunity.
Ateca Foreman said, “A lot of students, particularly freshmen, they either hadn’t turned 18 by the time they started school, or they turned 18 afterwards, and so registering to vote is not on the forefront of their minds. So in this process, we make it really easy for them. We get them registered, and they put down their home mailing address, and that voter registration card will be sent out to them wherever they live.”
National voter registration day was held on Sept. 16.
Booths were set up inside the student center and outside the library.
The women running them had an amazing attitude and uplifting energy; which encouraged many young students, especially freshmen to register.
Anyone was welcome to walk up during the tabling, which would provide them with all of the information they needed as well as receive help with the application process.
Veronica Smith said, “I am here with the Central Arkansas alumni chapter of Delta Sigma Theta sorority incorporated, and we are here to host a voter registration for the students. We are outside the library because this is where a lot of traffic is coming through.”
Smith helped to boost UCA spirit while spreading the importance of the cause.
“We want to make sure that all of the students are getting access, and they’re getting tools that they need to register to vote,”
“And so we walk them through the application process. We show them exactly what they need to complete on the forms, and then we answer any questions that they have about voter registration, about the polls, about what I need to do in the next steps,” Smith said.
