The ICC, a Christian student organization at UCA, hosted its first event of the semester titled Scripture Jars with the ICC on Jan. 21.
The ICC, which stands for Interdenominational Christian Council, is “a faith-based organization here on campus where we can just fellowship and hear more about God’s word,” Sophomore Shamiah Martin, the ICC events chair, said.
The organization wants to “give people the opportunity to be able to fellowship with one another as like-minded individuals or people who want to get to know Christ,” she said.
During the scripture jars event, students came together to enjoy some free Little Ceasar’s pizza, packaged cookie, and fellowship while decorating small glass jars to fill with different scripture verses.
Worship music played in the background as students grouped together at tables to look up Bible verses and write scriptures down on various colored sheets of paper with tools like colored markers and stickers provided by the ICC.
The event was created to “provide people with extra motivation and something to pour into their daily lives,” Junior Remiyah Miller, the president of the Interdenominational Christian Council, said.
Miller also said the ICC wanted to create a “super laid back, super encouraging environment that welcomes everyone.”
Martin had more to say on the purpose of the event itself.
“It also gives them [the students] something to take home and ponder with their scriptures and to really think about taking Christ with them outside of just the ICC,” she said.
Freshman Chasten Childs said she chose to attend this event because “it’s good to be reminded of scriptures, especially during the day.”
Childs said she enjoyed herself at the event and would encourage others to come to check out future ICC events.
In regard to future events and how to get involved, both Miller and Martin had more to say.
“Anyone interested in joining can hop into an ICC on Thursday night at 8 or they can request on CubConnect and they’ll get a notification about other events,” Miller said.
ICC holds worship service and Bible study at 8 p.m. Thursdays in the Ronnie Williams Student Center room 213.
Praise and Paint, the next ICC event, will be held 6 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 25 in student center room 205 B.
This Praise and Paint Party will be an event “where you can paint canvases and listen to worship music,” Martin said.
Miller said she hopes this next event will be one where students come and “paint a canvas just to relax and take their mind off of school and set their minds on things above.”
