Caylan Koons is a volleyball player representing the University of Central Arkansas, where she has made significant contributions to the team’s success.
Koons’ love for the sport of volleyball began in Springdale, Arkansas, where her mom was a volleyball coach.
The transition to collegiate volleyball at UCA marked a significant step up in competition.
Koons said her faith and beliefs are what help keep her motivated through each season.
“Being able to represent Jesus Christ through my play has inspired me to showcase my talents.
Throughout club volleyball, to high school volleyball and now college volleyball, the competition just continues to grow, which comes with competitiveness growing,” Koons said.
Koons has received recognition for her exceptional abilities, notably being named the Atlantic Sun Conference setter of the week.
Most recently, she earned this accolade for the fourth time this season, demonstrating her consistent high-level performance.
During a week in which Koons played nine sets, Koons averaged 11 assists per set, culminating in a total of 99 assists across two matches.
This type of gameplay showcases Koons’ integral role within the Sugar Bears volleyball team.
Beyond playmaking skills, Koons has established herself as a leader on the court.
With her ability to read the game effectively, she makes quick decisions that enhance her team’s performance.
The coaching staff recognized Koons’ potential quickly and entrusted her with a pivotal role as a junior setter.
“I have always been a setter, it’s just the impact that your body takes with the sport. Volleyball is a job for sure, so it is important to prioritize recovery,” Koons said.
This opportunity allowed Koons to not only develop her personal skills but also to elevate the performance of her teammates around her.
“I feel that my role on the team is to provide a calm but competitive presence/leadership on the floor. I also just want to have fun and get excited celebrating with others,” Koons said.
The drive, talent and leadership qualities not only contribute to the personal success of Koons but have also placed her among other key players and friends, making her a noteworthy athlete to follow.
“My roommate and best friend Trinity Hamilton have played together since we were 11 years old. It has been super fun to be able to play together in college,” Koons said.
As Koons continues to progress in her volleyball career, the qualities of enjoying the sport and being with the people she admires are the main goals.
“My favorite part of the game is definitely how much of a team sport it is. You physically would not be able to win without everyone on and off the court. I just love the bonds and friendships that volleyball brings together,” Koons said.
Koons accomplishments as a settler, along with her leadership and teamwork, highlight her significance to both the team and the sport.
