Alpha Sigma Alpha hosted a fundraiser Nov. 2 at The Soap Factory to support Girls on the Run, giving a portion of the sales to support the program for girls.
Kathryn Jones, the fundraising director of Alpha Sigma Alpha, highlighted the sorority’s commitment to supporting Girls on the Run.
“It is something we are passionate about,” Jones said. “We usually try and do at least one fundraiser every semester for them, so we are doing that tonight.”
A quarter of all sales and $5 per bar of soap sold from the evening would go directly to Girls on the Run, allowing the sorority to channel proceeds into the nonprofit’s programs, which focus on helping girls build confidence and pursue their goals.
The fundraiser, Jones explained, was the latest effort in Alpha Sigma Alpha’s long-standing dedication to service. Last semester, the sorority collaborated with Conway’s Stoby’s Restaurant for a similar event.
This semester, Jones wanted to bring a fresh experience to supporters. She said that The Soap Factory proved an ideal venue partly because a sorority member also works there.
“I contacted her about it, and I live in the area, so it was straightforward to reach out to them and ask for a collaboration,” Jones said. “That is why we are here tonight, which is fun.”
Jones, a senior in nuclear medicine technology, expressed her hope that the evening would make a significant impact. Though there were no specific financial goals, she shared that Alpha Sigma Alpha is no stranger to successful fundraising, having earned national recognition for its efforts. “I like to raise as much money as possible,” she said, “and our sorority is passionate about doing that.”
The fundraiser also served as a community outreach event, with the unique, custom-stamped soaps drawing patrons who wanted to support Girls on the Run. Girls on the Run, a nonprofit, empowers young girls to “activate their limitless potential” and pursue their dreams with confidence, according to its website.
Jones said Alpha Sigma Alpha’s partnership with the organization reflects its commitment to female empowerment, an ongoing mission that the sorority has embraced through fundraising and volunteer activities.
The Soap Factory, which takes pride in its plant-based, handcrafted bath and body products, provided a warm avenue filled with the smells of lavenders and sandalwood for the fundraiser.
According to its website, the Soap Factory emphasizes clean, effective goods and supports charitable causes and local communities, making it an ideal partner for Alpha Sigma Alpha’s event. Customers who attended not only had the chance to purchase soaps and bath salts bearing the Girls on the Run and Alpha Sigma Alpha collaboration stamp but also contributed to helping girls find strength and potential within themselves.
Jones encouraged students interested in joining or supporting future events to contact Alpha Sigma Alpha through Sydney Brooks, the sorority’s vice president of recruitment, at [email protected].
