The Oklahoma State University Cowgirls lassoed up a 4-0 win against UCA, handing the Bears their second loss of the season Aug. 25 at the Bill Stephens Complex.
UCA senior defender Gabby Thies attempted the first shot of the game from the bottom left of the field, only for the ball to be saved by graduate student goalkeeper Grace Gordon.
While the Bears took their first shot of the game, the Cowgirls [4-0] earned their first yellow card due to junior defender Ellie Geoffroy.
Nearly three minutes later, the Bears [0-2] ran the ball back to the goal for their second attempted shot of the game — this time from senior midfielder Kelly Van Gundy. However, Gordon once again saved the ball.
Afterward, the Bears made three substitutions and collected a single foul from Van Gundy, whereas the Cowgirls amassed six substitutions and four fouls.
Oklahoma State took its first shot of the afternoon with senior defender Mollie Breiner, however, it was senior forward/midfielder Nicole Ray who struck the Cowgirls their first goal of the game.
The Bears answered with six substitutions over the next six minutes, while Oklahoma State collected two more fouls.
The Cowgirls made two more substitutions before taking two final shots at the goal, each from freshman forward/midfielder Aubrey Wagner.
Oklahoma State ended the first period a point ahead of UCA.
Following a foul on UCA senior forward Anna Kerr at the top of the second period, Cowgirl freshman forward Reganne Morris took two kicks at the goal in under three minutes, both shots being recovered by senior goalkeeper Kajsa Pruner.
Returning from an attempted goal in the first period, Breiner scored the Cowgirls their second point of the game with an assist from sophomore midfielder Laudan Wilson.
Oklahoma State quickly followed up nearly four minutes later with a failed shot from Ray. Ray went for yet another strike four and a half minutes later, only to fail again.
The Cowgirls continued to assault the goal with two more kicks, one from Wilson and the other from freshman forward/midfielder Bella Pierotti.
After a total of six substitutions from Oklahoma State, junior midfielder Xcaret Pineda took a crack at the goal 20 seconds later.
The Bears responded with two substitutions of their own as well as their first yellow card of the game from junior defender Ava Ronsky.
Pineda took one more kick at the goal before both teams made a myriad of substitutions.
After the teams made a collective total of 18 substitutions, Oklahoma State sophomore forward Adelhia Ghonda picked up the Cowgirls’ second yellow card of the game.
Ray redeemed the Cowgirls over two minutes later with her second goal of the game and the third overall point for Oklahoma State.
Pineda took her third attempted shot at the goal but failed to capitalize on the opportunity.
With less than three minutes remaining in the game, UCA junior midfielder Brianna Lopez darted towards the goal for the Bears’ first attempted shot of the period, only for freshman goalkeeper Logan Marks to scoop up the ball.
The Cowgirls ended the game with a final goal from senior wing-back Alex Morris, garnering the win with a final score of 4-0.
The UCA Bears will next clash tooth-and-claw with the Arkansas State Red Wolves at 4 p.m., Aug. 9 in Jonesboro, Arkansas.
