She is a member of UCA’s Gospel Choir, UCA Ambassadors as a team lead, The American Chemistry Society as secretary and the African Student Association as Miss Africa.
Mbong shared her future plans and reflected on her memorable time at UCA.
What’s your plan for Biochemistry? What’s your dream job?
-
“After graduating, I plan on getting my master’s in some type of chemistry. From there, I will either continue in medical school and become an endocrine and fertility specialist or just get my doctorate in chemistry to become a cosmetic chemist specializing in making cosmetics that are both high in efficacy and safe for the environment.”
Why did you choose UCA?
-
“UCA was not my first choice honestly. I came here because during COVID my mom was having trouble figuring out how to pay for the college I was initially planning on going to. Since it was too difficult, I decided to come here for a year and then transfer. That was the plan until I ended up receiving a scholarship that helped pay for my tuition. From then, I decided it was a sign to stay here.”
Last semester, you participated in the ASA Gala Mr. and Miss Africa pageant. What was that like?
-
“It was such an amazing experience. The night was absolutely beautiful. It felt great to be able to show off our culture to the campus. I enjoyed watching everyone dance to the music and experience the way we celebrate. I also was excited to present my piano skills.”
How did you feel once you won Miss Africa?
-
“I felt so honored and grateful to be given the title of Miss Africa. I am thankful to have been chosen and I will always be grateful for the experience itself.”
What’s your favorite memory at UCA?
-
“My favorite memory here at UCA is a mix of the ASA Gala and the times I did Bear Facts Day for ambassadors. I’ve always enjoyed Bear Facts Day because of the high energy and being able to represent my major. I love to share with perspective my time in the biochemistry department here and all the opportunities we have to offer.”
Outside of all your roles at UCA, what do you like to do during your free time?
-
“Outside of everything I do on campus, In my free time I take care of my plants and at times read. I also love to play Pokemon on my Nintendo Switch whenever I can. I often spend time with friends and family too.”
