Sophomore guard Camren Hunter became the fourth player in UCA history to score a triple-double — alongside Scottie Pippen, Hayden Koval and DeAndre Jones.
Hunter made the rare shot in the men’s basketball game against the North Alabama Lions on Jan. 18.
Hunter finished the game with 20 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 assists. The Bears lost the game 78-73.
“At the time I wasn’t so hyped about it, because at the end of the day, we lost,” Hunter said. “After a few days, I realized it was a blessing though, being in the category with some great UCA student-athletes.”
Hunter said there was much preparation going into this season.
“You never know what to expect in a season. The best preparation is being proactive.”
Hunter said that this past offseason has been his favorite. He spends his time in the gym three to four times a week, also weight-lifting.
“It was fun. My desire and passion became greater for sure,” Hunter said.
During his time as a UCA athlete, Hunter has received several ASUN Conference recognitions.
In his freshman year, Hunter was awarded “ASUN Freshmen of the Year.” In his two years on the men’s basketball team, he was awarded “ASUN Newcomer of the Week” three times.
The most important lesson he has learned at UCA is that relationships are important.
“How you treat people is important. It goes a long way.”
Hunter said Coach Anthony Boone’s sudden absence due to heart surgery ingrained this value in him.
“It has affected everyone, not only just me. You can see it early on but we are adapting,” Hunter said. “Coach Boone instilled something in me that I never knew I had.”
Hunter has two main goals he wants to achieve before the season ends: making it to, and winning, the conference tournament.
“Everything else will come along or with it,” Hunter said.
