The UCA women’s golf team finished seventh at the Bearcat Spring Classic on March 22 at the Los Colinas Course at Mission Inn Resort hosted by the University of Cincinnati.
UCA shot rounds of 317-313-303 to finish with a total of 933.
The University of Memphis won with a score of 892, followed by Jacksonville University which shot a 917.
Seminole State College of Florida shot a 923, UC shot a 926, North Dakota State University shot a 927 and Seton Hall University shot a 930.
UCA finished with a 933, Florida Southern College finished with a total of 937. Winthrop University finished with a 942.
University of Alabama-Birmingham shot 945, Bradley University shot 948, Illinois State University finished with a score of 953, Rutgers University shot 958, Northern Iliinois University shot a 961 and Southern Mississippi University shot 966.
Texas A&M—Corpus Christi finished with a 971 and Florida Atlantic University shot a 1,004.
UCA senior Malin Senneryd tied for sixth place overall, shooting rounds of 76-76-74 for a 10-over par 226.
She said she was content with UCA’s performance for the weekend, but looks forward to the experience gained more than the results themselves.
“We finished in the middle of the pack, but we all know we can do better,” she said. “The individual results within the team were quite dispersed, but everyone improved and came back during the last round, which was good.”
She said playing in Florida was cool but tough, and the team has been getting stronger.
“We enjoyed being in Florida and the course was somewhat tougher than we’re used to, so we got some good practice, and I think we all learned a few things that we will take with us into our next event,” Senneryd said. “We had a good start of the season, tying for first at Corpus Christi, which gave us confidence that we belong among the top teams and the next few events will be good preparation for conference in a few weeks.”
Freshman Fernanda Lira tied for 18th (77-76-78_231), while sophomore Brenda Gonzalez tied for 31st (78-84-75_237).
Senior Kendra Mann tied for 48th (86-77-76_239) and junior Frida Svensson was 94th (95-93-82_270).
The Bears head to Maumelle on March 30 and 31 to compete in the University of Arkansas—Little Rock/Arkansas State University Women’s Golf Invitational.
