The Winter Olympics are from Feb. 6 to Feb. 22 and are being held in Milan and Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy.
This is the first time that the Olympics have been co-hosted by two cities.
The competitions are being held across 13 venues between Milana and Cortina d’Ampezzo, according to CBS News.
Some of the Winter Olympics sports are curling, figure skating, ski jumping and snowboarding.
Currently, on Feb. 15, Norway is in first place with 26 total medals, according to Olympics.com. In second place is Italy with 22 total medals and third place is the United States with 17 medals in total.
The United States has the largest presence at the winter olympics with 235 athletes, this includes three alternate athletes, according to CBS News.
98 of the United States athletes are returning athletes who have won a combined 22 gold medals.
Canada has 211 athletes being the second largest presence then Italy follows with 195 athletes.
A new sport, ski mountaineering, is being added to the Winter Olympics event schedule.
“Skiers will scamper uphill wearing carpet-like skins on their skis or just their stiff boots, then barrel back down an ungroomed course,” according to NBC News. “It’s a brutal high-altitude sport.”
United States Olympian athlete, 21 year old Jordan Stolz has broken two Olympian records during the Winter Olympics.
Stolz is the first American to ever win gold in the speed skating men’s 1000m event, according to NBC.
Stolz finished his speed skating men’s 500m in 33.77 seconds, which is Olympic record time according to NBC.
This is the first time since 2006 that an American man has won this event on the Olympic level, according to NBC.
“With his win in the 1000m Feb. 11, Stolz, 21, now stands as the only American to clinch multiple gold medals at the Milan Cortina Games and joins Eric Heiden and Bonnie Blair as the only Americans to win the 500m and 1000m at the same Olympics,” according to NBC.
On Feb. 13 Kazakhstan earned their first figure skating gold medal in Olympic history, according to Olympics.com.
21 year old Mikhail Shaidorov, earned a total score of 291.58 for the men’s single figure skating.
Shaidorov said “I haven’t slept for two days, or rather, I slept just two hours and I honestly could not describe until today what has happened,” according to Olympics.com. “These past hours were filled with adrenaline, incredible pride for myself but, first of all, pride for my country.”
On Feb. 15 the United States won 5-1 in their hockey game.
“Three wins from three for the U.S. sees them top the group, booking their place in the knockout rounds in style as they continue their push for a first men’s gold in this discipline since the famed “Miracle On Ice” at Lake Placid 1980,” according to Olympics.com.
On Feb. 18 the United States will either be playing against Sweden or Latvia.
It was expected for about two million people to attend the Winter Olympics games, according to CBS News.
