The Seattle Seahawks kicked their way to victory during Super Bowl LX.
The National Football Conference Champions (NFC) Seahawks played the American Football Conference Champions (AFC) the New England Patriots at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California. The Seahawks, with coach Mike Macdonald in his second season with the team, won the game 29-13.
The Patriots won the coin toss after the Seahawks called tails and the coin landed on heads. The Patriots deferred to the second half giving the Seahawks the ball to start off SuperBowl LX.
Three minutes into the first quarter the Seahawks put up the first three points of the game through a successful field goal.
Starting their lead early on, Jason Myers kicked the 33-yard field goal. Before the first half of the game was over, Myers added a 39-yard and a 41-yard field goal bringing up the score 9-0 going into the locker room at halftime.
The Patriots started the second half with the ball but had to punt away after only gaining seven yards. The Seahawks turned this possession into an opportunity and added another 41-yard field goal by Myers.
The third quarter went by with punts back and forth from the teams. With 16 seconds left on the clock, Patriots quarterback Drake Maye was sacked at the Patriots 37-yard line leading to a forced fumble by Seahawks linebacker Derick Hall. Byron Murphy recovered before going into the fourth quarter.
Seahawks quarterback Sam Darnold’s pass at second down and nine yards at New England’s 25-yard line was an incomplete deep right to wide receiver Cooper Kupp.
Darnold threw a 16-yard touchdown pass to tight end AJ Barner and Myers’ extra point was good, bringing the score up 19-0.
The Patriots were able to finally put points on the board with a 35-yard touchdown pass. Maye passed deep left to wide receiver Mack Hollins. Andres Borregales’ extra point was good.
Myers added another field goal at 26 yards.
With 2:21 left on the clock Maye passed short left to running back Rhamondre Stevenson for a seven-yard touchdown.
The Patriots went for a two-point conversion however Maye’s pass to tight end Hunter Henry was incomplete leading to a failed attempt bringing the final score 29-13.
