The Rebel yell proved too much for the softball Bears (25-15, 7-4 ASUN) as they fell in their midweek home matchup against Ole Miss (25-25, 2-10 SEC) 5-0 on April 1.
After a scoreless first inning, the Rebels jumped in front with a solo homer from junior infielder Cassie Reasner to go up 1-0.
Though, this would be the only offensive push for the first four innings as the Bears stayed in the game and kept Ole Miss on its toes.
In the third inning, UCA missed out on an opportunity to tie the score.
Freshman infielder L.J. Smith drew a leadoff walk and was then able to advance to third after a couple of groundouts.
But the two-out hole proved too much, and the Bears weren’t able to bring her home.
This came back to bite Central Arkansas in fifth, when an offensive push from the Rebels put them up 4-0.
It started with a pair of singles from junior infielder Laylonna Applin and junior outfielder Liesl Osteen.
Senior catcher Kennedy Bunker then drove in a run and reached on an error, followed by an RBI groundout from sophomore infielder Mackenzie Pickens made the score 3-0.
Sophomore pitcher Persy Llamas then drove a two-out single up the middle gap which scored another run, making it 4-0 Ole Miss after five.
UCA’s offense, already struggling, had no answers with the bloated score.
The Rebels tacked on another run in the seventh when Pickens drove in Bunker, generating the 5-0 final score.
This is the second time UCA has lost to Ole Miss this season, having previously been defeated 10-2 by the Rebels in Oxford on Feb. 25.
The Sugar Bears face off against Bellarmine away from home Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12.
