Freshmen participate in a trust exercise during PlayFair in the HPER Center Sunday.
Correction: The original version of this article incorrectly reported that PlayFair was sponsored by the Student Orientation Staff. The event was sponsored by the Resident Housing Association.
The Resident Housing Association sponsored PlayFair and encouraged freshmen to break out of the comfort zone on their first night at UCA from 9:30 to 11 p.m. in the HPER Center.
SOSer sophomore John Patterson said freshmen were broken up into large and small groups to give them the chance to meet each other.
“The idea for PlayFair is for [students]to meet as many people as possible in a short amount of time,” PlayFair representative Nina Czitrom said.
Students participated in several ice breaker activities, starting off by separating into groups of two and three.
Czitrom also had the students separate into large groups across the basketball courts depending on their birthday month so students could participate in a birthday-month wave.
She said the birthday-month wave and back-to-back dancing routines are well received by students.
Students broke off into groups of two and linked arms while facing each other back-to-back for the dancing routine.
Czitrom said this maneuver made it easier to “check out everyone else but your partner, because we all know you only go out dancing to check people out but you can’t do that if you’re dancing with the same person all night.”
“Back-to-back dancing always inspires some good stuff,” Czitrom said.
Freshman Melina Cambiano said she didn’t know anybody before going to PlayFair and that she had no idea what to expect.
“I had fun and met a lot of people tonight,” Cambiano said. “The dancing was the best part.”
