Students lined up outside of room 206 in the Ronnie Williams Student Center at 10 a.m. on Monday for free tickets to see “Thor: Love and Thunder.”
The UCA Student Activity Board and Student Government Associated teamed up to buy and hand out movie tickets to students enrolled in summer classes. Each student was allowed two tickets and picked their seats at the time of pickup.
Both SAB and SGA traditionally come together each summer to host an event for summer students.
“We usually do an outdoor movie and have some refreshments like Andy’s or Pineapple Whip. With the hot weather, we decided to go a different way by purchasing bulk tickets to a movie at the theater, which has proved to be successful,” Student Activities Director Kendra Regehr said.
These events are paid for by a fee that students enrolled in summer classes paid to the sponsored organizations.
“Having a co-sponsored event is something we have done for many years. The summer students pay a fee to both SAB and SGA, so we want to provide them with some entertainment. An indoor movie and a theater experience seemed like a good idea,” Regehr said.
“Thor: Love and Thunder” was released on July 8 and is a highly anticipated movie, which is why it was chosen for the free-ticket event.
“We knew that ‘Thor: Love & Thunder’ would be a big draw and knew students would be interested. Marvel movies have always had a big turnout, so we went with it,” Regehr said.
The sponsors started out with 60 movie tickets which ran out in 15 minutes. They then took the names and information of students remaining in line and went back to purchase 112 more tickets.
“For the past few years, SAB has rented out an entire theater for the students to watch a highly anticipated movie on opening night. With it being summer, we weren’t sure if we could fill a theater, so we decided on purchasing bulk tickets instead,” Regehr said.
The tickets are for a 7 p.m. showing of the Marvel movie on Friday, July 15 at the Conway Cinemark Theater.
