The organization Real Beauty hosted the event, Cupcakes For Kindness on March 13.
Real Beauty set a table up at the front of the Ronnie Williams Student Center and were handing out free cupcakes and positive handwritten notes.
The President of Real Beauty, Senior Neiya Howell, along with two members, juniors Jiya Adams and Lauryn Hall, were at the table helping pass out the cupcakes and notes.
This event was put on to help brighten people’s day and make kindness contagious.
Howell said, “We just wanted to spread the love before spring break and in the midst of everything that is going on in our world today, it is always good to spread a little positivity, let people know that they are loved in their purpose.”
They had chocolate and vanilla cupcakes to give to anyone who walked through and wanted one.
Freshman Maci Jordan said, “My best friend invited me to come with her to Cupcakes For Kindness. I had not heard of Real Beauty before this event, but it seemed like something cool so we went and checked it out. The girls at the table were very nice, they gave me a cupcake and a sweet note that made my day.”
Jordan said, “I definitely think that more people should spread kindness around campus like this, even if it is a small gesture it still can go a long way and make someone’s day.”
Junior Mary Grace Matthews said, “I was just walking through the Student Center getting some lunch when I saw their table. I got the opportunity to talk to Real Beauty about their organization and get a cupcake. I think it is really cool how they put on this event to spread kindness.”
Real Beauty is a multicultural organization that provides community service to adolescent girls, from the ages of 9 to 19. They also have the purpose to raise the educational and career opportunities for all of the involved members. Real Beauty does this in hopes to lower peer harassment in the adolescent female population, through teaching diversity of beauty and media desensitization.
Howell said, “We help build their [adolescent girls] self-esteem, confidence and let them know they have a purpose.”
Howell said, “My favorite part about Real Beauty is seeing my group, my exec board, and how they have learned so much in their roles. As well as being able to develop themselves as better leaders and also learn how to make anything out of nothing.”
