The UCA softball team went home with its 15th season win after defeating the University of Tulsa Golden Hurricane 11-6 on the road March 26.
The Bears (17-19, 5-3) opened the game scoring immediately and kept this momentum throughout the game.
After the first inning, the Bears had a huge head start, already having five of their eleven runs.
Graduate student infielder Madi Young started with a one-out triple. An infield single by freshman infielder Addie Graham had runners on the corners.
Freshman infielder Mya January got the bases loaded. Then, Junior infielder/outfielder Lilly Hood hit and then the Bears scored the first two runs of the game.
Freshman infielder LJ Smith popped a single to center field forcing a pitching change and making the score 5-0.
Junior catcher Autumn Vessier was hit by a pitch at the end of the first inning.
Tulsa (18-18, 6-6) did not score in the first inning and then the Bears continued to score in the second inning, adding two runs to the Bears’ lead, making the score 7-0.
January hit to the left field, with 2 RBI. Freshman outfielder Carmen Uribe scored.
During the second and third innings, Tulsa did not have any runs.
The Golden Hurricane got on the board in the fourth inning.
The fifth inning was a huge step up from Tulsa, as they scored four more runs.
Junior infielder Faith Russell scored on a wild pitch, and then again for the teams 3rd run of the game.
At the end of the bottom of the fifth Tulsa scored two more runs.
Freshman center/innerfield Aliya Scarborough doubled to right center, with 2 RBI. Freshman outfielder Whitney Holcodb advanced to third.
Tulsa then got their next two runs from freshman outfielder Annika Dill scored and sophomore infielder Celeste Wood.
Tulsa’s final run was in the sixth inning.
Graduate student infielder Paige Knight doubled to right field.
Senior center/infielder Maci Cole scored Tulsa’s last run of the game leaving Tulsa with 6 runs in total.
The top of the seventh inning was huge for the Bears.
Senior catcher Emma Robertson scored and right after Smith scored as well. Making the score 9-6.
Graham was hit by a pitch. Young advanced to second, senior infielder Kylie Griffin advanced to third, and freshman catcher Aeryn Shuman scored the Bears’ 10th run of the game.
January walked, Graham advanced to second, Young advanced to third and Griffin scored the Bears last run of the game, leaving the score 11-6 with the Bears taking home the win.
The Bears’ next game is April 1 at Mississippi State.
