Standing together to empower women, the Women of Excellence organization handed out words of affirmation alongside candy to uplift women across campus Jan. 28 in the Ronnie Williams Student Center.
The tabling event focused on handing out positive affirmations to women in need of uplifting. WOE’s initiative is to enhance the collegiate experience for women on the UCA campus. The group encourages women of color to address and overcome issues with self-esteem, achieving academic goals and having an overall enriching college experience.
The president, vice president and treasurer of WOE decorated the table, handed out sweets and spread the group’s message of inclusion and positivity. Warm smiles, inspiring conversations, and an enriching sense of community were also provided at the event.
Senior and WOE President Kiana Wright said the event’s goal was to “give affirmations to the young women that come by and just allow them to know that Women of Excellence are here for you and we’re not just here to put on programs or events. We’re here to be here for you and just help you get through this semester.”
Wright said she gives credit to the organization’s warm environment and enticing message for encouraging her to join the group.
Wright said, “I initially joined my freshman year and just seeing the way that they pulled me in as a freshman and gave me resources and guidance as a freshman.”
Wright also mentioned the immense support she experienced while being a part of WOE.
Wright said, “The love they poured out to me as soon as I stepped foot onto campus” truly enhanced her UCA experience.
WOE and its members are committed to being there for women throughout the semester.
“We need women to uplift each other and keep each other uplifted while we feel like there’s a lot going on in this world. So just knowing that you have women in your circle that want to see you succeed and love you, and just being a good asset to the college is important,” Wright said.
Junior and WOE Vice President Aariah Strickland also attributes the collection of women to creating a safe, welcoming and relaxing environment.
Strickland said, “I’ve been a part of this group since 2023 and I’ve seen our group come together and demonstrate our ladies empowering women and making them feel comfortable.”
