One of the University of Central Arkansas’s recognized student organizations, Relay for Life, hosted its annual Statues on the Lawn event Oct. 31, to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
According to UCA Cub Connect, “Relay For Life (Colleges Against Cancer) is a volunteer organization that raises funds for the American Cancer Society and spreads awareness about cancer on UCA’s campus and in the local community.”
Statues on the Lawn was hosted from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Ronnie Williams Student Center lawn.
Relay for Life had different members that were a part of different RSO’s on campus standing as statues to raise money.
Some of the RSOs that had representatives standing as statues were Alpha Sigma Alpha, Delta Zeta, Alpha Sigma Tau, Sigma Phi Epsilon and Student Orientation Staff (SOS).
Delta Zeta junior Macey Faust said, “I signed up to raise money for the American Cancer Society, which is one of our philanthropies.”
Relay for Life executive vice president, senior Izzy Bishop, said, “People donate money from their respective RSOs and it goes under their name and their category. We run a competition with it and whichever RSO raises the most money wins bragging rights for the next year.”
People walking by were encouraged to donate money through cash, Venmo or Cash App.
Bishop said, “Statues of the lawn is a fundraiser that gets the whole campus involved.”
Relay for Life hosts many events throughout the school year to raise money for the American Cancer Society.
Some of the other events that they have hosted earlier this semester were Pie a Committee Member and Bra Pong Tabling for Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
All of these events lead up to their big fundraiser, the Conway community’s Relay For Life event.
“Our annual event in March is all day. It raises money for the American Cancer Society. We have business booths and different RSOs come to that,” Bishop said. “It’s open to the whole community and it is just a full day of fundraising. Sometimes we have a band and fun things.”
The next Conway Relay for Life event will be held on March 14, 2026 at 10 a.m.
According to UCA Cub Connect, funds raised through Relay for Life’s event directly support the American Cancer Society’s efforts, which include “funding cancer research, patient and family support, travel and housing aid and advocacy endeavors.”
