The Service Activities event allowed UCA Accounting majors to color motivational cards for children at Arkansas Children’s Hospital on Oct. 9 in the College of Business classroom.
The host organizations of the event were Beta Alpha Psi, Accounting Club and BearX.
“I have been to this kind of event a couple times before and I really enjoy it,” Anna, a sophomore majoring in accounting, said, “That’s why I came back this time.”
The event started with an agenda “2025-2026 Best Practices Categories” and included 3 key titles: Collaboration & Unity, Innovation & Progress and Sustainable Future.
“This is our general plan for upcoming events, which will follow these key messages and missions,” accounting professor Connie McKnight said.
The event later moved forward to gathering participants’ opinions through the Mentimeter website about their service activities, which were discussed at the end of the presentation.
A relaxing music playlist was played while they moved to the main activity, which was painting cards with the message “Have a great day,” and cute animal drawings.
“I enjoy it a lot because I have no afternoon classes, so this is the time I can do something meaningful for giving back to my community,” Anna said.
“This is my first time attending this activity but I really like it so far, just coloring and relaxing after classes,” Ivan, a junior Accounting major, said.
“It’s funny even though I just randomly found out about this and went here,” Ivan said.
“We have already organized this kind of activity before but in different forms and places such as meal packaging activities last month, so it was not usually in a classroom like this one,” McKnight said.
“The key reason behind these activities is to get close to students and pull them closer to the network,” McKnight said, “That’s why we provide service with a non-profit.”
After coloring the cards, participants laminated them and put them in plastic tiny bags to be sent to Arkansas Children’s Hospital.
The event ended with a review of responses from the Mentimeter poll to discuss ideas for future service projects.
Some participants suggested that the organization host should go to high school and promote this kind of project there, and they would contact if possible.
Almost all participants rated this activity as “helpful,” and they expressed a desire to develop and spread it to classes outside of accounting.
“Thanks for coming and helping us make these beautiful messages for those littles in Arkansas Children Hospital,” McKnight said. “Your work was just making someone’s day.”
