Former New York Jets quarterback and current Fox Sports broadcaster, Mark Sanchez is currently facing three misdemeanor and one felony charge in relation to an incident where he was stabbed early Saturday morning outside Indiana’s wholesale district.
Sanchez was taken to a nearby hospital to be treated for his injuries, where he was then arrested on suspicion of battery, public intoxication and unlawful entry of a motor vehicle.
“We are deeply grateful to the medical team for their exceptional care and support. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mark, and we ask that everyone please respect his and his family’s privacy during this time,” Fox Sports said in an earlier statement.
The official Jets twitter account wished the former QB well saying, “sending our thoughts and love to Mark Sanchez and his family. Hoping for a speedy recovery, 6.”
Prior to the stabbing, Sanchez was slated to be a member of the Fox broadcast crew where the Indianapolis Colts would face the Las Vegas Raiders.
Sanchez would be discharged from the hospital Sunday, October, 12th, after spending just over a week in recovery.
Upon his release from the hospital, Sanchez was taken to Marion county jail, where he was officially booked.
The man that Sanchez allegedly fought was later identified as 69-year-old Perry Tole.
According to the statement that Tole gave police officers, he stated that Sanchez smelled of alcohol during their encounter.
Court records show that police first became aware of the fight between the two men around 12:35 a.m. on October, 4th. At that time, officers with the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department found Sanchez suffering from several stab wounds to his upper torso outside of Loughmiller’s pub. After further investigation, they spotted Tole, who was found in a nearby alley with multiple cuts on his face.
Sanchez told police that he had no memory of the attack, but could only remember “grabbing for a window.”Sanchez‘s bond was set at $300 on October 5th, in which it was quickly paid by an unknown source the same day.
Sanchez could be facing some major jail time if convicted because the maximum penalty of a level five felony in the state of Indiana can bring about a six year prison sentence, along with a fine up to $10,000.
There is no official court date yet for Sanchez’s trial, but there is a pre-trial conference slated for November 5th, at 1:00 p.m. Sanchez played eight seasons in the NFL after being selected fifth overall by the New York Jets in the 2009 draft out of USC.
He would spend four seasons in New York where he helped the Jets to appear in back-to-back AFC Championship Games in his first two seasons with the team. Along with the Jets, Sanchez also spent time with the Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and the Washington Redskins, where he made his last appearance in 2018.
