The Central Arkansas STUNT team competed in the Mid America West Conference Tournament on April 10 through 12, battling against Mercyhurst and UT Martin.
In the first half both teams struggled for points, and during the midway point the Mercyhurst Lakers had a small lead at 6-3.
Throughout the third quarter UCA attempted to conclude the match with a triumph, but the fourth quarter brought an eventual win from Mercyhurst with a 27-12 finish.
STUNT coach Chloe Moxley explained that this weekend’s tournament was about the team focusing on what they can control instead of only their competitors and the scoreboard.
“I think that there is so much more competitive success even if the scoreboard doesn’t reflect it. Success this weekend is about continuing to build the foundation for years to come,” Moxley said.
With this being the final tournament and game play of the season for the STUNT team, there’s a lot of discourse between players about their pre-season leading into their real season.
“The pre-season helped me and my teammates prepare by helping us learn the routines and get our bodies in shape to be ready to compete in the spring. It helped us learn the routines and learn to trust each other in a sport that depends on trust,” Sophomore and STUNT flyer, Sarah Lomax said.
Lomax expressed that it’s not just about feeling ready to win but knowing they’ve put in the work together so they can push themselves under pressure during the season.
Later in the tournament the Bears had to face up against UT Martin in the consolation bracket on Saturday, April 11.
The Bears fell short to the Skyhawks advancements and lost their final game of the tournament and season to a 33-18 conclusion.
“Moving forward into next year I believe we have laid the foundation for our returners and newcomers to hit the ground running, and lead our new newcomers into success. With only half of the routines changing each year, we have many returners already progressed in routine placements for next year. This will allow us to focus more time on cleaning rather than skill building,” Moxley said.
