Women-owned businesses teamed up to host a night of feminine fun at the Grundy Boudoir Galentine’s Party on Feb. 7.
The women-only event offered a night of self-care, music, treats, giveaways and more.
Kelsie Grundy, the owner of Grundy Photography, conceptualized the event.
Grundy said, “I wanted to have a safe space for women to hang out for one night. Not everybody has a Valentine, and I think a huge part of just being a woman is being okay with every aspect of your life, whether it be the looks of yourself or being your personality or the stage of life that you’re in. And so with this event, I wanted all the women to come in and get their chocolate-covered strawberries that they deserve, their bouquet of flowers that they wanted from somebody — even if it’s from themselves, and then to be able to have a safe space to drink and have fun with friends.”
The event was held in Glam by Ging Salon, located at 1050 Bob Courtway Dr.
With the $75 ticket, attendees could pick out a lotion candle supplied by Pure Lux, snack on chocolate-covered strawberries from Mozo Sweets, make a floral arrangement at ShiDaisy Designs, get their hair braided with Glam by Ging Salon, take a photo in Grundy Photography’s photo booth, and get a cocktail made by Events On The Rocks. For an extra fee, attendees could also get botox or a shot of B12 courtesy of MAC Aesthetics & Wellness.
Attendees were also enrolled in the event’s ongoing raffle which offered a selection of blind bags full of vendor coupons, stickers, sex-positive novelty gifts, and the occasional sex toy.
Alex Madden, the owner of Glam by Ging Salon, said, “Mostly, I feel like women empowering women is so important in this time that we’re in.”
Madden said that her hair salon emphasizes inclusivity and that when Grundy came to her with her idea for the event, it seemed like the perfect way to bring together her salon’s mission and Valentine’s Day.
“I was like, that’s perfect. I want my salon to be the one to host it, because that’s everything we empower: women, love and fun,” Madden said.
Grundy’s work also focuses on empowerment and inclusivity, especially when it comes to her boudoir work.
“I focus on women, men and couples and it’s just [about] expressing yourself, owning your feminine side or your masculinity. The biggest thing is empowerment,” Grundy said.
ShiDale Crowe, the owner of ShiDaisy Designs said that she enjoyed getting to do her first floral workshop at the event.
“I mostly do event florals right now. This is kind of my second job, so I do it on the weekends, and it’s really something that I started doing for fun. I just love getting to play with flowers, and I help Kelsie and other photographers out and help them make photo shoot sets and stuff like that…I really think it’s important to build community with the people that are around you.”
Rachael Broussard, owner of Events On The Rocks, provided the cocktails throughout the night. The “Grundy Sip and Slay” menu included “The Fierce and Fabulous” and the “Pop My Cherry.”
Broussard said, “We’re a professional bar and event services company… a lot of our business is weddings, but we do private bars, mobile bars, and we help coordinate events.”
Broussard said that her company contracts bartenders from all over the country.
“I love [Kelsie], she’s a go-getter. She mentioned that she was having a little shindig for Galentine’s, and I was like, ‘I’m in, sign me up.’”
Taylor Burns and Lauren Rather attended the event together as galentines.
Rather said, “I found it on Facebook on the Little Rock Power Women page, and then I just thought it was different. It was something fun that not really a lot of people are doing, and we wanted to spend some time together.”
Burns added, “She’s from out of town. I’m from Bryant, so we don’t get to see each other very much. So this was just an opportunity to hang out.”
Burns said that she enjoyed the flower arranging and the drinks.
Rather added that she enjoyed the chocolate-covered strawberries and the giveaways.
