Ebony Models produced a fashion show Jan. 13 in the student center ballroom that displayed elegant clothing pieces worn by members of the organization who strutted their stuff on the runway.
As models walked out in fur boots, vintage coats, mini skirts and more, they were met with pure excitement and encouragement from people within the audience and other members.
Freshman Ava Hannah described the atmosphere of the night as “very fun and just explosive.”
She also expressed her love of inclusivity that this event and organization help cultivate for the students involved.
One of the main goals of Ebony Models is to support students and help increase their self-confidence.
The large crowd that showed out to support and watch these models helped cheer on each and every student who walked the runway, which generated confidence and created an energetic atmosphere the whole night.
Freshman Lauryn Jackson said she loves events like these because “it’s nice to have somewhere to come and know you’re going to have a fun night.”
During an intermission while the models changed into new pieces, a competition was held for audience members to try out their own walk on the runway.
With encouragement from her friends, freshman Kayla Wyatt took charge of the stage and rocked her own style, landing her the spot as the competition’s winner for the night.
Wyatt said walking on the runway “was so fun.”
Even though she was hesitant to participate in the competition, she said, “I’m going to go to their next practice on Tuesday.”
Senior executive board member and creative director Demetrius Foreman said he enjoys seeing models be confident in their runway walks.
“It makes me joyful,” he said. “I think it is a way for them [models] to express themselves through clothing, and it helps them build their confidence.”
Graduate student La’Diamond, who was the spokesperson for the evening, has continued to show support for the organization even after graduating.
“To see people just enjoying being on the stage and enjoying fashion together is amazing, especially the crowd,” she said. “To see all of it come together is just a full circle moment.”
Both members were extremely proud of the hard work and composure each model expressed during the show and the incredible atmosphere the audience helped form.
Ebony Models’ next fashion show is Feb. 13 and the RSO has practice sessions from 5-7 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday.
