From signature style drinks to a monthly celebration of vintage finds, local coffee shop Demure Coffee ties in flavor, flair and style into a community building event known as Demure Market.
Music booms, conversations flow and vendors sell anything from jewelry, clothes, baked goods and everything in between right outside the coffee shop doors in Hendrix Village.
On August 23, members of the community perused the many styles found within the market and enjoyed goodies from the various food trucks while also hopping inside to order a specialty drink.
Owners JT and Christa Clifton strive to provide excellence by teaming up with other local organizations as a way to give back to their community and Demure Market does just that.
“It’s such a good community, I’ve never had a bad day here,” Sydney Diamond, vendor and creator of The Hunnibun Collective, said.
“The people make it, I’ve met so many people I wouldn’t have met and everyone’s walking around with a smile on their face,” Diamond said.
Diamond is a self-taught clothing creator and designer whose voice shines through in each piece she creates.
Blue hues outline inspiration taken from pop culture, Christian beliefs, political statements and media in general.
Diamond’s creativity and ability to intertwine multiple different niches and thoughts into one coherent piece of work that can be worn and styled is part of the beauty and goal of Demure Market.
Vendors who work predominantly online or through popup markets can be seen in tents right next to business owners with their own store-fronts making it easier for a community to be built full of all types of owners, creators and vendors.
“I started selling at the flea market downtown every weekend and then I’ve just been asking around where people are selling,” Kayleigh Ginn, vendor and creator of Gypsy Thrift, said.
Ginn wants to “bring funky back” with her unique style full of fun colors, whimsical designs and tarnish free jewelry.
All items Ginn said are perfect for any and every occasion that calls for a touch of “funkiness.”
Ginn stated that she feels a sense of reward when she gets to watch people not only buy, but wear and fall in love with the pieces she has personally handcrafted.
Businesses who do have established stores feel the benefits of this market as well.
Lainey Pettigrew has owned local business Glazin Pottery Studio for two years, which prospers on her own creativity as well as the customers.
Pettigrew said she loves getting to be creative every single day for her business and that she feels the benefits of advertising her business at Demure Market.
“I feel like I get a different customer base out here. Obviously we have a lot of people coming into the shop but this is a younger crowd so it’s good to advertise for,” Pettigrew said.
Pettigrew continued, “Getting our name out there is hard but markets like this get us out in the community.”
Sunny Saturdays spent promoting business growth and a stronger community are what Demure Market is all about.
Whether shoppers are there for the coffee, the clothing, the food or just the vibes – there’s a little bit of something for everyone.
